Kari Hohn

Kari Hohn brings the perspective of someone who has done the work Ballast clients are responsible for every day.  

As a Director with Ballast, Kari helps colleges and universities strengthen Title IX and nondiscrimination practices through training, advising, coaching, policy and procedure support, and interim leadership. Her experience as both a Title IX Coordinator and Equal Opportunity Director gives her firsthand understanding of the responsibilities, competing priorities, and difficult decisions campus professionals encounter. That practitioner perspective is central to Kari's approach. 

She understands that effective compliance work requires more than knowing what a regulation or policy says. Campus leaders must determine how requirements apply to real situations, communicate clearly with people across an institution, coordinate with multiple offices, manage complex cases, and make decisions that reflect both institutional responsibilities and community values. 

Kari helps leaders bridge that gap between requirements and implementation. 

Her work includes advising institutions on Title IX and nondiscrimination policies and procedures, case management, prevention efforts, and individual matters. She also provides ongoing mentoring and coaching for professionals in roles where having an experienced sounding board can make a meaningful difference.  

Professional development is another significant part of Kari's work. She has developed and delivered Title IX and nondiscrimination training for a wide range of campus audiences, including investigators, Title IX Coordinators and deputy coordinators, hearing and adjudication panel members, appeal officers, first responders, confidential resources, and other institutional professionals.  

Rather than relying on one standard training program, Kari adapts the content to the audience, institution, and responsibilities of the people in the room. Her goal is to help participants understand not only what is expected of them, but how to apply that knowledge when they return to their roles.  

Kari also provides interim support during staffing transitions and periods of organizational change. Because she has served in campus compliance leadership herself, she can step into an institution with an appreciation for the relationships, processes, and day-to-day responsibilities that must continue even while an organization is navigating change. 

Across these engagements, Kari is known for listening carefully before recommending a solution. She recognizes that every college and university has its own culture, mission, organizational structure, resources, and community. 

Her goal is to help institutions develop approaches that meet their responsibilities while fitting the communities they serve—and to leave campus professionals better prepared to navigate the next challenge themselves.
